Setting Up
Windows 95/98 Dial-up Networking
It is assumed that you have your modem
correctly installed and working on your system. If for some
reason you are having problems, please refer to your modem's user
guide for the instructions on how to setup the hardware.
The following procedure will assist you in
installing Dial-up Networking software component with the Windows 95/98
operating system.
Dial-up Networking allows you to connect to
remote sites, such as Sana Systems network, using your
telephone line and a modem.
In order for the Dial-up Networking to work you
must have it installed on your system. You may be required to
have your Windows 95 disks handy for this procedure.
Please follow these easy steps to have
Dial-up Networking installed on your computer.
- From the Start Menu,
select Settings, then Control
Panel. Select Add/Remove Programs,
then click on the Windows Setup Tab.
- Double click on the Communications
Icon. This will bring up the Communications Components
window. Click in the box beside Dial-Up
Networking, so that a check appears in it.
- If there is already a check in it, meaning
that the Dial-up Networking is already installed, proceed
to Step 5.
- Select OK button, then
click on Apply button. Windows 95 will
then install Dial-Up Networking.
- When the files have been copied from your
disks, you will be prompted to restart the computer.
Select OK when prompted to restart the
computer. You will be then asked "Do you want to
restart your computer now", select No
to proceed with the installation of Network components.
- From the Start Menu,
select Settings, then Control
Panel. Double click on the Network icon.
- In the Network window, you must have the
following components installed:
- If Dial-Up Adapter is not installed, click
on Add, then Adapter,
then Add. From the list of manufacturers
on the left hand side of the window, select Microsoft.
- Select Dial-Up Adapter from the list on
the right hand side of the Window, then click OK.
- If TCP/IP is not installed, click on Add,
then Protocol, then Add.
From the list of manufacturers on the left hand side of
the window, select Microsoft. Select TCP/IP
from the list on the right hand side of the window, then
click OK.
- From the Network window, highlight TCP/IP,
then select Properties.
- Click on the IP Address
tab and make sure "Obtain An IP Address
Automatically" is selected.
- Click on the "Gateway"
tab and enter Sana Systems Gateway Address by typing 206.101.242.10
into the field, then press Add.
- In the DNS Configuration
tab, select Enable DNS. In the host
field, enter your Sana Systems login name. In the domain
field, enter gncom.com . In the
"DNS Server Search Order" field, enter, 206.101.242.50,
then press Add, then enter 206.101.242.60,
and press Add.
- From the Network window, highlight Dial-Up
Adapter, then press Properties.
- Click on the "Bindings"
tab, make sure TCP/IP is checked. Then
press OK to close this window, and OK
again to close the Network window. When
Windows 95 prompts you to restart your computer, this
time select "Yes".
- Once your computer has re-started follow
the steps to install the Internet software on your computer.
