Frequently Asked Questions

This is a list of frequently asked questions and the answers to the most common questions asked. If you can't find an answer to a question here, then contact a Sana Systems technical support representative.

  • Does Sana Systems support web-based mail?

A: No. However, we are looking into supporting such a feature with IMAP and PHP.

  • Why doesn't telnet work anymore?

A: Telnet is an insecure protocol. As such, we have denied the service to all users until requested. However, we would rather you login using the Secure Shell protocol (SSH).

  • My connection is saying the wrong speed, what could be the problem?

A: There is probably nothing wrong with your modem or the connection. Sometimes, modems simply don't display the correct baud rate (modem packet speed). Don't worry about it.

  • Why does my connection close when I am reading my e-mail, I thought I was connected?

A: Sana Systems disconnects "idle" users, or users which are not actively making TCP/IP connections. When you are reading e-mail for long periods of time, or sitting on a webpage for passive periods of time, you are bound to get disconnected. TCP/IP does not provide a continous connection, and trust me, almost everything you are doing is probably using TCP/IP (unless you know otherwise - IRC would be an example of UDP).

  • I have a 56K/X2 modem - why can't I get 56K speed?

A: Because Sana Systems does not have 56K modems on OUR end. Where it is true you are connecting into a T1 backbone, you cannot exceed the limitations of the 33.6K modems on our end.

  • How come some pages are faster than others to load?

A: The Internet is not just made up of the local servers in your area, but is made up of servers throughout the world. Network congestion is always a problem - no matter which provider you will choose.

  • Does Sana Systems support WebTV?

A: Yes. WebTV requires an ISP to sport two protocols - PAP and CHAP - and we support those. Remember you will need to pay for a local ISP AND the WebTV Service
